Trump and Prince William meet following the reopening of Notre Dame.
The Prince of Wales paid a visit to US President-elect Donald Trump while in France for the ceremonial reopening of the Notre-Dame cathedral.
Prince William was in Paris with other world leaders to commemorate the rebuilding of the iconic edifice five years after it was damaged by fire.
After shaking hands at the occasion, the president-elect called the prince a “good man” who was doing a “fantastic job” during their meeting.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated, “We must treasure this lesson of fragility, humility, and will,” in his remarks regarding the restoration.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and departing US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, who was speaking on behalf of President Joe Biden, were among the other dignitaries and leaders present.
Prince William was supposed to speak to Trump and the first lady about the significance of the “special relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Trump patted William’s shoulder as he greeted the prince during the event, and the two shook hands and exchanged brief words.
The last time he saw Trump was during the former president’s state visit to the UK in 2019.
Alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and hundreds of other heads of state, Prince William attended the ceremony on Saturday at the UK government’s request.
Trump and William met at the British ambassador’s Paris home.
When Trump arrived, the prince was in the foyer. After exchanging handshakes and greetings once again, Trump pointed to the Prince of Wales and remarked, “Good man, this one.”
Trump said that he had warmed up and that “it was a beautiful ceremony” when Prince William inquired if he had warmed up.
According to Kensington Palace, the encounter was “warm and friendly.”
William and Trump talked about a variety of world concerns during their 40-minute meeting, but they mostly emphasized the significance of the unique connection between the US and the UK.
The late Queen was also remembered with warmth and affection by the president-elect, for which the prince was reportedly “extremely grateful.”
William was also scheduled to meet with Trump and Dr. Biden earlier today, but Kensington Palace reported that weather-related delays had caused him to miss his flight from the UK to France.
